I saw the Elastico episode of Lilo & Stitch the series this morning on Disney Junior the channel. I have a few things to say regarding this episode and the Lilo abandoned Stitch plot in the anime. For those of you who may not be familiar with this episode, in it Lilo is preparing for a big hula performance. Stitch wants to be involved in helping Lilo but he accidently destroys her new hula outfit that she was going to wear for the performance. The next morning Lilo is still really mad at Stitch and tells him to wait outside during her rehearsal. Stitch happens to see a clown experiment and tries to alert Lilo. She responds by saying "Ohana means family and family means leave me alone" Stitch goes to the circus to find the experiment on his own and ends up joining the circus. Stitch is given the option of leaving hawaii to join the circus forever and he agrees feeling left behind and abandoned by Lilo. Luckily Lilo comes to Stitch to apologize just in time and Stitch chooses to stay with Lilo. Now I believe that in the Stitch! anime when Lilo goes to collage Stitch feels the exact same way that he did in the Elastico episode and leaves. Obviously the implication is that Stitch reads into things WAY to quickly when Lilo is off doing her thing(which I totally understand because I'm the same way sometimes, the reading into things)and doesn't realize that just because Lilo isn't paying attention to him every second doesn't mean she does not love him. I think the idea for Lilo and Stitch being apart came from the Elastico episode. Disney probably figured that if fans excepted the Elastico episode they would except the boyfriend plot and the Lilo episode of the anime because of the similarities. I also think that Jess Windfield who wrote the anime english dub sees the idea of Lilo and Stitch being apart being totally believable because he wrote in Leroy & Stitch that Stitch leaves Lilo for a Big Red Battleship.
Ok rant over.
