Kurogane growled and tightened his grip on his sword protectively. "That's Kurogane to you." However, he didn't once complain about his new job, climbing onto the building's roof with ease and assuming the stance of an experienced ninja with his sword out in front of him. He seemed to be enjoying the possibility greatly of ripping robots to shreds.
Syaoran, after watching Kurogane at his post for a moment, turned back to Sonic. "What do I do?"

"Evacuate the office buildings, Amy and I will handle the residential area." Immediately after he said this, he picked Amy up (you know, carrying a person in front of you with both arms. There ha to be a name for that.) and sped off.

Syaoran allowed himself a moment to gaze after Sonic and Amy with an amused expression on his face. They weren't a couple, huh? Right. He'd believe that any day. After the moment was up, he returned to the task he had been assigned with an air of determination. Syaoran ran into the first building he saw to spread the word. "Um, um, excuse me, sir, but I was given orders to have these buildings evacuated! Everyone has to get out of here, and fast!"

Aroud that time, Shadow walked into the building where Syaoran was. (He appears whenever he wants, wherever he wants.) Noticing the panic in the cubicles, and the manner in which Syaoran was trying to calm them, he almost half laughed. Almost. "They won't listen to you if you aren't more... assertive. GUN HQ IS SAFE! GO THERE!" The business people calmed down almost instantly and began to evacuate.
MEANWHILE IN THE RESIDENTIAL AREA
Sonic was rushing people to GUN at breakneck speeds, while Amy was using her hammer (The Piko Piko Hammer to be specific.) to stop any robots. After the area had been cleared, Sonic rushed them away from danger, but instead of taking the road back to GUN, he ran through a sunlit field and into a small area near a crystal clear pond, where a tree was casting intricate shadows on the ground and water, and pink blossoms were floating down and creating ripples. (This was actually a place shown in one of the games, but it was never given a name, since it wasn't really significant to the plot.)
Amy was stunned by the beauty of the area.
"Sonic... Why did you take me here?"
After a long period of silence, the blue hedgehog answered.
"I don't know."

Syaoran stared at Shadow-san in awe. "You're really good at that, Shadow-san. I'll try to be more assertive next time, don't worry!" The two ran to the next house over, where Syaoran tried out his new technique. "HEY, UM, EVERYONE! YOU NEED TO EVACUATE THE BUILDING! GO TO GUN HQ--IT'S SAFE THERE!"

Syaoran flushed crimson. "Oh. Right." He hung his head with a sigh. "I'm sorry, Shadow-san... well, at least if any rats or anything live here they'll be warned. Um, where's the next building?"

"There are two more buildings around the corner, and a third behind the warehouse. You go deal with that one, I'll take the other two."
He sped off in the previously mentioned direction before Syaoran could answer.
MEANWHILE, AT GUN HQ
Soldiers were struggling to funnel refugees to safety and to set up defensive positions at the same time.
"Commander, we have a bogey on radar headed towards one of the outposts that were taken over by robots."
"Is is an Eggman plane?"
"No sir, it's too small to be one of his."
"Send a special ops squad down to check it out."
"Yes sir."
MEANWHILE, NEAR AN OVERTAKEN GUN OUTPOST
The Tornado zoomed towards a group of robots, cannons blazing. Tails was flying blind, since the GUN radar jammer hadn't been destroyed by the robots. Because of this, he didn't realize that a missile was headed his way until it hit his plane. Although he managed to land the plane safely, there were still a few robots surrounding it. Tails began rummaging through a toolbox. "Let me see.. wrench.. spoon.. AH here it is, my EMP device." Seconds later, all the robots were disabled.

Syaoran nodded, even though Shadow was no longer in range. He ran to the third building and warned its panicky inhabitants forcefully, steering them towards GUN HQ. However, just as he had led the last few sobbing children down the street to the proper building, he heard a very familiar voice.
"What's this about evacuating the area, Syaoran-kun?"
"Fay-san!" Syaoran whirled around to see a smiling Fay and a worried Sakura standing by the building's side. "Princess! You two need to go to GUN HQ, where it's safe."
"Are you coming too?" asked Sakura, her frown growing deeper as she realized what his answer must be.
Syaoran shook his head. "I need to stay and tell people where to go. I also need to be here so I can fight off the robots with Sonic-san and Kurogane-san if things get rough."
Sakura grabbed his hands in hers, making Syaoran blush darkly. "Then, Fay-san and I are staying with you! I won't let you hurt yourself, Syaoran-kun!"
Syaoran's gaze softened. "Thank you. But you see, Princess, I can't let you hurt yourself either, especially not because of me."

THE FIELD
"I've never seen anything more beautiful." Amy said in awe.
"I have."
"What?"
"That's for me to know, and you to find out. Sonic grinned and sped off.
"Hey, wait up! No fair! Hmmph." Amy soon got over her frustration however, and began to ponder Sonic's words. "I wonder what he meant, is there another pond?"

Sakura shook her head emphatically. "But, Syaoran-kun... you're already risking your life to find my feathers. I don't want you to put yourself in any more danger if I can help it! Standing by while you let yourself get hurt is as bad as hurting you myself! So that's why I'm staying with you!"
"Princess, I need you to understand this." All traces of a smile were gone from Syaoran's face, replaced by a serious expression far beyond his years. "I am sworn to protect you. Any time you get hurt, or almost get killed, is my personal failure." Because I love you! "You are the Princess of Clow. Your people need you. You can't let yourself get hurt, when there are so many people eagerly awaiting your return, unharmed!"
"But, Syaoran-kun, it doesn't matter if I'm in a safe place or not..." Sakura looked down at the ground, embarrassed to be voicing her heart's contents. She said it so quietly it could barely be heard, but the words seemed to tremble in the air long after they had left her lips. "...when you get hurt, I hurt, too."
Stunned, Syaoran didn't know what to say. Wasn't that exactly, precisely, the feelings he held for her?

Sonic ran through tho grass as fast as he could, but he couldn't keep up with his thoughts. What did I just say? I mean, I want to be her friend, right? That's what Tails was talking about yesterday, isn't it? I don't want to be chased, just friends. Just friends... what if I actually- "OWWWWWWWW!!!!!" Sonic had crashed into a tree as a result of thinking about everything except where he was going. "Hey, my head feels clearer now, that bump must have organized things. Thanks tree!" Sonic stood up and brushed himself off. "I was wrong about what I wanted, wasn't I?" He thought for a moment. "Yeah, I was wrong. So much for being carefree, I have a LOT to think about."

Syaoran frowned. "Well, you shouldn't, Sakura-hime. I don't want you to hurt because of me. Please go where you'll be safe."
Sakura looked up at him with wide, terrified eyes. "Only if you promise me you won't get injured at all, and you'll do everything you can to keep yourself safe, Syaoran-kun."
Syaoran sighed. This was a big promise to keep. But, if it would keep Sakura out of harm's way... "All right. Don't worry about me though. I promise."

Shadow skated up alongside them. "That's the last building." He pointed to a skyscraper. "It will take a long time to notify all the levels, we have to get moving."

With one last look at Syaoran, Sakura skirted off with Fay by her side. Syaoran kept his eyes on the two of them as he nodded in Shadow's direction. "Hai. Let's go."
